Hold No Disdain

Al Mahmud Manjur

Kindly see me with eyes of grace—

For now I walk a path I never chose,

Doing things I once dismissed,

With a smile stitched gently to my face.

All my life, I turned from these—

Never did them, never wished to,

Never urged another soul to try—

Yet here I am, living them through.

And if I may offer a thought, sincere:

In this life, hold no disdain—

Not for a thing, not for a being,

Not even the humblest creature near.

For what you cast away in scorn

May one day hold your final breath—

The hand that brings your last sip of water

Might be the one you once thought less.

So, stay safe. Think light.

Love all that lives and moves around you.

And now, if you’ll pardon me—

I’ll rest a while, beneath this quiet sky.
